Get Jiro! Episode 5 Review: Pressure Cooker

In the fifth episode of the series, titled “Pressure Cooker,” the protagonist Jiro returns to the Outer Ring badly wounded after being pursued by Bob’s henchmen. While Maria and Cam attempt to treat his injuries and suggest fleeing to Las Vegas, Jiro refuses to leave until he recovers his knife.

Upon returning to his restaurant, Jiro faces Mr. Madison, a high-ranking thug with an obsession for Japanese culture. Madison demands that Jiro prepare a meal worthy of Tokyo in exchange for the knife. During the culinary confrontation, Jiro serves a series of fish dishes. Although Madison correctly identifies the ingredients, he realizes too late that the meal contains fugu, which carries the fatal toxin tetrodotoxin. Madison dies from the poisoning.

Following the confrontation, Bob’s men attempt to apprehend Jiro, leading to a sequence involving Rose. Ultimately, Jiro is rescued by Maria, Cam, and a group of local neighborhood vendors.
