Christantus Uche to miss full season with severe knee injury
Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche is expected to miss the entire 2026/27 season following a severe knee injury sustained during a pre-season friendly against AS Monaco. The 23-year-old Nigerian international was stretchered off the pitch after a heavy challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa, who received a red card for the incident.
While initial medical assessments suggested a kneecap contusion, subsequent MRI scans confirmed extensive damage, including multiple tears to the ligaments and meniscus in his right knee. Uche is scheduled to undergo surgery and will require a lengthy rehabilitation process.
The injury is a significant setback for both Getafe and the Nigerian national team. Uche, who recently returned to the Spanish club following a loan spell at Crystal Palace, was expected to play a key role in Getafe's upcoming campaign. Additionally, his absence will impact Nigeria's plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
In a personal statement shared on Instagram, Uche described the news as "one of the most difficult moments of my career," but expressed his determination to recover. "I am going to face this period with strength, patience, and determination," he stated.
