Getir and Veri Enstitüsü study reveals time and cost of grocery shopping

A joint study by Getir and Veri Enstitüsü involving 320 participants has detailed the time and financial burdens associated with weekly grocery shopping in Turkey. The research indicates that a single weekly shopping trip, including preparation and putting items away, takes an average of 111 minutes. When shopping with children, this duration increases to 181 minutes. Annually, this equates to approximately 96 hours, or four full days.

Financially, the average round-trip transportation cost of 249 TL per trip results in an annual expenditure of approximately 12,950 TL. Physical shopping challenges identified include hot weather (40%), heavy products (38%), and crowds (36%).

Regarding digital trends, 52% of respondents use online grocery or rapid delivery services. The primary drivers for online shopping are campaign and price advantages (44%), lack of time (32%), and convenience (30%). Additionally, 47% of participants expect artificial intelligence to assist in finding better prices or promotions, though 40% emphasize that the final decision-making should remain with the consumer.
