Getnet study projects $3 trillion global payments market by 2029

A Getnet‑commissioned study finds that global payments revenues grew 4 % in 2024, driven by an 11 % rise in Latin America and an 8 % rise in Europe. At the current pace, the total market could reach about $3 trillion by 2029.

Key trends identified include the consolidation of instant‑payment solutions – Brazil’s PIX now serves roughly 170 million users and Spain’s Bizum over 30 million – with real‑time payments expected to account for 22 % of all cash‑less volumes by 2028. The report also highlights AI‑driven risk management, noting $442 billion in consumer losses to scams in 2024 and projecting the AI‑fraud‑detection market at $39.1 billion by 2030. Additional shifts involve embedded payments, AI‑enabled payment agents, and sector‑specific payment personalization.

Getnet CEO Federico Balige emphasized that “payments have moved from a back‑office process to a decisive factor for businesses,” underscoring the strategic role of the sector beyond pure technology.
