Geumcheon-gu to extend library reading room hours until 11 PM

Geumcheon-gu in Seoul will extend the operating hours of four district libraries starting in October. The reading rooms at Gasan, Doksan, Siheung, and Geumnarae libraries will remain open until 11:00 PM, an hour later than the current 10:00 PM closing time.

This initiative aims to provide more accessible public study and reading spaces for students and office workers who may be busy with academies or work during standard hours. Additionally, the district is piloting extended hours for children's rooms at Doksan and Gasan libraries, which will operate until 8:00 PM on specific Wednesdays. If successful, this service will expand to all four libraries by 2027.

To ensure safety for late-night users, the district is inspecting lighting and security facilities, requesting increased police patrols in the areas, and promoting the use of the Seoul ‘Ansimi’ safety app for commuters.
