Munich car‑ramming trial seeks life imprisonment for Afghan driver FAST-MOVING

The Oberlandesgericht München is hearing a murder case against a 25‑year‑old Afghan who drove his vehicle into a Verdi demonstration in February 2025, killing a mother and her toddler and injuring many others. Prosecutors have asked for a life sentence with a finding of special gravity of guilt, which would make parole after 15 years unlikely. They allege the driver acted with the intent to destroy lives, describing the attack as a religiously motivated political assault. The trial is expected to conclude with a verdict on 6 August.

The case has drawn significant public attention in Munich, prompting a renewed focus on security at public demonstrations and on motivations behind extremist violence.
