GEWOG housing project in Bayreuth reaches final construction phase

The GEWOG residential development project in the Untere Rotmainaue district of Bayreuth is entering its final stages. On September 1, 2026, the project reached two major milestones: the topping-out ceremony for buildings 10/12 and the groundbreaking for buildings 6/8.

Since 2016, the development has aimed to create approximately 170 housing units near the city center. The final phase, involving buildings 6/8, will add 32 new apartments. This portion of the project is supported by an 8 million euro subsidy from a Free State of Bavaria program for affordable housing, out of a total investment of roughly 10 million euros. These subsidized units are expected to have rents approximately 35 percent below market rates.

Additionally, the structural work for buildings 10/12 is complete, marking the topping-out of 31 apartments. This phase represents an investment of approximately 11.9 million euros. Mayor Andreas Zippel noted that the progress demonstrates the city and GEWOG's commitment to providing housing despite challenging economic conditions, such as rising material costs and high interest rates.
