Geyse Ferreira discusses overcoming depression after brother's death

Brazilian footballer Geyse Ferreira has opened up about her struggle with depression following the tragic death of her brother, Geovanne Ferreira, in a road accident in January 2025.

While playing for Manchester United, the former Benfica forward experienced a period of intense grief that led her to consider retiring from football. She noted that during a loan spell with Gotham FC in the United States, she was unable to enjoy the game due to her mental state.

Geyse credited her recovery to the support of her family and ongoing psychological counseling. Her decision to move to Club América in Mexico provided a supportive environment that helped her regain her confidence and passion for the sport. She has since returned to form, recording 16 goals in 10 matches for her current club and earning a call-up to the Brazilian national team.
