Ghana advances US visa talks and prepares for Philippine embassy
Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced significant diplomatic developments regarding relations with the United States and the Philippines.
In discussions with the US Department of State, Ghana has made substantial progress toward an agreement concerning the immigrant visa category. This category provides pathways for permanent residency through employment or family sponsorship. While a specific timeline for the finalization of the deal has not been established, the minister indicated that an agreement is expected in the near future.
Additionally, the Philippines has committed to opening its first embassy in Ghana later this year. Following a meeting between Minister Ablakwa and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro at the United Nations General Assembly, both nations agreed to strengthen trade and investment cooperation. Plans include convening business fora, establishing a chamber of commerce, and exchanging expertise on labor mobility agreements.
