Ghana AIDS Commission to launch condom vending machines nationwide by 2026

The Ghana AIDS Commission announced that it will deploy condom vending machines across the country beginning in the last quarter of 2026. Machines will be placed at lorry stations, mosques, stadia, shopping malls and in public institutions such as ministry washrooms and financial offices, allowing users to obtain condoms discreetly.

Director‑General Dr Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong said the new machines are redesigned to suit local community needs and to minimise vandalism that plagued earlier installations. Some units will be electronically operated, others manually, and additional condom supplies have been procured to avoid shortages. The World Health Organization’s country office technical lead, Dr Kafui Senya, urged continued efforts to reduce new HIV infections, eliminate stigma and ensure equitable access to prevention tools.
