Ghana Airports MD sues Facebook user for GH¢10m defamation
Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has filed a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit against Facebook user Samuel Bryan Buabeng at the Accra High Court.
The lawsuit follows a September 22, 2026, publication on Buabeng’s Facebook page that allegedly used Opare’s name and photograph to link her to narcotics trafficking and abuse of office. The posts also implicated a staff member, Frank Danquah, in criminal activities involving the emptying of bank accounts.
Opare categorically denies these allegations. Through her lawyers, she is seeking GH¢10 million in general, aggravated, and exemplary damages for libel. Additionally, the suit seeks a declaration that the published material is false, an order to delete the content from all social media platforms, and a requirement for the defendant to issue an unconditional retraction and unreserved apology. The apology must remain pinned to the top of the defendant's Facebook page for 30 consecutive days.
