Ghana and Ivory Coast floods kill 71

Intense west‑African rains caused severe flooding in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Ghana's National Disaster Management Organization reported the death toll rising to 34, with more than 10,000 households affected and 89,736 people forced to leave their homes, especially in the Greater Accra area. Authorities warned of cholera, malaria and diarrhoea risks and have called for humanitarian aid and military assistance to reach flooded zones.

In Ivory Coast, 59 people were confirmed dead after floodwaters inundated the economic capital Abidjan, particularly the Attecoube and Yopougon neighbourhoods. The government announced ongoing rescue operations and highlighted difficulties reaching some areas. Both nations expect further rainfall, prompting continued alerts and emergency responses.
