Ghana and US launch TVET partnership to combat youth unemployment

The Ghana-US International Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Partnership Programme has been established to address youth unemployment by providing young Ghanaians with practical, industry-relevant skills. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between formal education and the evolving demands of the modern job market.

Dr. Karen McBride, Executive Director of Community Colleges for International Development, emphasized the necessity of prioritizing skills development due to the rapid transformation of the global workforce, specifically noting the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Tsonam Akpeloo, Chair of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), stated that a highly skilled workforce is essential to support Ghana’s industrialization goals, including the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Ghana TVET Service has expressed optimism regarding the program's potential to strengthen technical and vocational education standards.
