Ghana announces week‑long national tribute for victims of 2025 helicopter crash

The Ghanaian government has unveiled a series of national commemorative activities to mark the first anniversary of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that killed eight senior public officials and military personnel. The programme, announced by Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, begins on July 30 with the presentation of state support to the victims' families.

Key events include a public Dr Edward Omane Boamah Memorial Lecture on August 4 at Burma Hall, Burma Camp; an interfaith memorial service on August 6 at the UPSA Auditorium in Madina, Accra, attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang and security officials; and the unveiling of a memorial cenotaph later that afternoon.

The tribute concludes on August 7 with a nationwide blood‑donation drive called “Service to the Soul,” coordinated across district, regional and teaching hospitals as well as the 37 Military Hospital, aimed at replenishing blood banks in memory of the deceased.
