Ghana appoints new boards for Airtel Ghana and PPL Net

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has inaugurated a new Board of Directors for Airtel Ghana Limited and PPL Net Ghana Limited. The move is intended to strengthen governance and revitalize the nation’s telecommunications sector.

During the ceremony, Minister George emphasized the necessity of restoring formal corporate governance. He specifically tasked the new board with addressing outstanding audited accounts and updating corporate records with the Registrar of Companies.

Regarding PPL Net, which operates the AT Ghana brand, the Minister noted that the company must resolve its audited account arrears—currently approximately one year behind—before the National Communications Authority (NCA) can legally allocate additional spectrum. While a policy directive has been issued to make spectrum available in three different bands, the allocation remains contingent on meeting these legal and regulatory requirements.

The new board is chaired by Hilary Denise Arko-Dadzie and includes several directors with a mix of local and international expertise. The leadership has been urged to improve operational efficiency and position these entities as competitive market players capable of generating sustainable returns for the Ghanaian public.
