Ghana Armed Forces chief urges military to anticipate security threats
Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has called on senior military leaders to strengthen strategic leadership and anticipate emerging security threats. Speaking at the maiden Ghana Forces Generals Convention in Accra, Agyapong emphasized that the increasingly complex security environment in Ghana and the sub-region requires the military to continuously review its strategies, policies, and operational approaches.
The convention, themed ‘Adaptive Leadership in a Complex Security Environment: The Role of Generals in Shaping Ghana’s Future,’ aims to promote strategic reflection and institutional learning. Agyapong noted that modern warfare requires joint operations rather than single-service solutions, necessitating integrated planning and a shared strategic vision.
In addition to discussions on intelligence, military justice, and ethical leadership, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, the Chief of Naval Staff, announced the establishment of an electronic warfare department in the northern sector. This department is intended to enhance surveillance and improve the military’s ability to detect potential threats early.
