Ghana attracts $2 billion Indian investment and northern development funds

The Indian Ramky Group has announced a $2 billion investment plan in Ghana over the next five years. Presented in Accra, the portfolio aims to create an integrated manufacturing ecosystem focusing on five key sectors: pharmaceuticals, waste management, energy, housing, and agribusiness.

This investment arrives as Ghana seeks to diversify its economy away from a heavy reliance on gold and cocoa. The country is projected to see a GDP growth of approximately 5% in 2026, and its strategic position provides access to the broader ECOWAS regional markets.

Separately, the Ghanaian government is allocating approximately $90 million (1 billion cedis) to revitalize investment in the northern Bawku region. Following a period of security tensions, President John Dramani Mahama has established a five-member committee to oversee these funds. The capital is intended to restart suspended public projects, such as the Tamli dam, and restore essential public services to the area.
