Ghana backs coach Carlos Queiroz to remain with Black Stars

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has urged that Carlos Queiroz continue as head coach of Ghana's Black Stars, arguing the experienced Portuguese manager deserves more time after guiding the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage – the country's first since 2010. Queiroz, appointed on a short‑term contract in April, led Ghana to a 1‑0 win over Panama, a 0‑0 draw with England and a 2‑1 loss to Croatia before a 1‑0 defeat by Colombia ended their run.

Adams said Queiroz is motivated by the talent he sees in Ghana rather than merely seeking employment, and permanent contract talks are now underway as the team prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will face Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia and The Gambia.
