Ghana's Black Stars arrive in Rhode Island for final World Cup preparations

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, touched down at T.F. Green International Airport in Providence, Rhode Island, at about 6 p.m. on Thursday, marking the start of the final phase of their 2026 FIFA World Cup build‑up. The squad, coached by Carlos Queiroz, will train at Bryant University’s new 43,000‑square‑foot field house before moving to Toronto for their Group L opener against Panama on 17 June. Players include captain Jordan Ayew, who said, “We have three massive games for us, and we want to make you guys proud, want to make Ghana proud,” and winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who noted, “So far, so good… the energy in camp is very positive and everyone is ready.”

The team spent a week‑long camp in Virginia, with sessions at American University and D.C. United’s facilities, and held a farewell dinner with the Ghanaian diaspora in Alexandria. Community events are planned in Rhode Island, including a Ghana Culture Day on 20 June, while the squad will face England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia later in the group stage. Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus remains unavailable due to injury.
