Ghana building cost inflation rises to 5.10% in September
Building cost inflation in Ghana accelerated to 5.10% in September 2026, up from 4.60% in August. While the annual rate is significantly lower than the 9.7% recorded in September 2025, the market is experiencing a divide between different construction inputs.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, month-on-month inflation remained stable at 0.03%. The annual increase is largely attributed to a lower price base in September 2025 rather than a sudden monthly price shock.
Construction costs are being driven upward by specialized components, with plant and equipment costs rising 19.10% year-on-year. Specific increases were noted in reinforcement (29.0%) and plumbing (27.5%). Conversely, core structural materials such as steel (down 8.8%) and cement (down 6.1%) saw price decreases, as did labour costs, which fell by 3.2%.
