Ghana Cabinet approves Host Country Agreement with Holy See

The Government of Ghana's Cabinet has approved a longstanding Host Country Agreement with the Holy See. This diplomatic pact resolves a matter that has been pending since formal ties were established in 1976.

Aligned with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the agreement establishes a legal framework for relations between the two entities. It grants specific rights, privileges, and immunities to ecclesiastical officeholders and the Catholic faithful within Ghana.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the approval following a meeting with the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Archbishop Julien Kaboré. The agreement is now scheduled for submission to Parliament for formal ratification under Article 75 of the 1992 Constitution.
