Ghana cedi weakens against US dollar and euro

The Ghana cedi experienced mixed performance against major global currencies on August 27, 2026, according to the latest Bank of Ghana exchange rates. The local currency weakened against the US dollar and the euro, while showing strength against the British pound sterling.

The US dollar saw the most significant impact, with the cedi weakening by approximately 0.22%. The dollar's strength is attributed to its performance in international markets as investors await a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole economic symposium. Market participants are looking for indications regarding US monetary policy and potential interest rate adjustments due to inflation levels remaining above the 2% target.

Regarding specific rates, the dollar was quoted at a buying rate of GH¢11.1954 and a selling rate of GH¢11.2066. The euro saw a marginal depreciation of the cedi, with buying and selling rates at GH¢13.0426 and GH¢13.0555, respectively. Conversely, the cedi strengthened by about 0.12% against the pound, which was quoted at a buying rate of GH¢15.2168 and a selling rate of GH¢15.2331.
