Ghana cocoa sector secures new financing to pay farmers and fund 2026/27 harvest
The Produce Buying Company (PBC) has obtained a GH₵30 million financing facility backed by credited cocoa stocks to enable prompt payments to cocoa farmers, addressing chronic cash‑flow problems that have plagued licensed buying companies in Ghana. Deputy Managing Director Thomas Ayisi said the facility restores credibility and trust with growers, while GNACOFA President Stephenson Anane Boateng highlighted its potential to stabilise farmer incomes and curb sector challenges such as smuggling.
Separately, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama announced a plan to raise US$1 billion from the domestic bond market to finance cocoa purchases for the 2026/27 crop season, aiming to deepen Ghana’s local bond market and secure funding for future harvests.
Both initiatives target liquidity constraints in the country’s crucial cocoa sector, seeking to improve farmer payments and ensure financing for upcoming production cycles.
