Ghana trial of former signals chief Kwabena Adu‑Boahene over GH¢49.1 million cyber‑defence fund diversion

Deputy Attorney‑General Justice Srem‑Sai announced that prosecutors expect to close the case next week in the trial of former National Signals Bureau Director Kwabena Adu‑Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei‑Boateng, and Advantage Solutions Ltd. The three are accused of diverting GH¢49.1 million that was earmarked for a national cyber‑defence system. Evidence presented by investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office shows the money was deposited into a private account bearing a name similar to a government agency and was subsequently spent on luxury houses and vehicles.

The Court of Appeal ordered the state to disclose several categories of documents, including 88 missing pages of a Universal Merchant Bank statement, files from former National Security Coordinator Joshua Kyeremeh, and records of special‑purpose accounts. The Attorney‑General’s Office replied that it cannot produce those documents because they have not been obtained, although it maintains the defence already has access to the complete bank statement admitted as evidence. The appellate court partially upheld the defence’s appeal, keeping the disclosure order in place while the trial proceeds toward its anticipated conclusion.
