Ghana DVLA warns motorists of fraudulent fine‑payment SMS scams

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Ghana has issued a public alert about a rising scam in which text messages claim to offer discounts on traffic or licensing fines. The messages contain links to counterfeit websites that solicit payment and often threaten immediate sanctions if the alleged fine is not paid promptly.

The DVLA emphasised that it does not provide any discounts and that legitimate online payments are processed solely through the Government of Ghana’s official payment platform (ghana.gov.gh) and its official website (dvla.gov.gh). Motorists are advised to ignore such SMS messages, avoid clicking on unknown links, and not share personal or financial information.

Anyone who receives a suspicious text should verify the request via the DVLA’s official channels and report the incident to the nearest DVLA office or the appropriate law‑enforcement agency.
