Ghana economy projected to rank among Africa’s eight largest by 2026
Ghana is projected to become one of Africa’s eight largest economies by 2026, according to the International Monetary Fund’s October World Economic Outlook. The IMF estimates Ghana’s nominal gross domestic product will reach US$128.64 billion, up from an earlier estimate of US$114.71 billion. The country is expected to see real economic growth of 5.7 percent in 2026, surpassing the Sub-Saharan African average of 4.5 percent.
Financial analysts suggest that improving macroeconomic conditions and declining sovereign risk could trigger an influx of foreign investment into the Ghana Stock Exchange. The Bank of Ghana reported that foreign investor participation in capital markets strengthened during the first half of 2026, driven by new bond issuances and more favorable financial market prospects.
While the macroeconomic indicators show momentum, experts note that the rise in dollar-denominated GDP is influenced by exchange rates and statistical revisions. The challenge remains for the government’s fiscal reset agenda to translate these national growth figures into tangible improvements for citizens, such as job creation, affordable essentials, and reliable public services.
