Ghana Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu cautions university councils against management interference

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu warned the governing councils of Ghana’s public universities to refrain from interfering in the day‑to‑day administration of their institutions, saying such meddling weakens governance and hampers performance. He made the remarks while commissioning a new hostel at Wisconsin International University College in Feyiase, Ashanti Region, and noted that the government has strengthened governance structures to clearly separate council oversight from management responsibilities.

Iddrisu urged councils to desist from actions that “worry” management, stressing that they have no policy support for such conduct. He called for a collaborative, respectful relationship between councils and university management to promote stability, efficiency and higher academic standards across the country’s tertiary sector.
