Ghana Education Ministry rejects guidance from predecessor

Ghanaian Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak have rejected offers of guidance from former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, citing inherited systemic crises.

Minister Iddrisu argued that the current administration inherited a despondent education system characterized by infrastructure deficits and food shortages under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme. He noted that during the previous administration, schools were occasionally forced to close due to lack of food, but claimed improvements have been made since President John Dramani Mahama uncapped the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to prioritize student feeding.

Deputy Minister Apaak further criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating the ministry would expose the hypocrisy of predecessors rather than accepting advice from those he claims created the current challenges. This follows Dr. Adutwum’s offer to share his experience, which he described as maintaining a friendship with his successor.
