Ghana Energy Minister demands accountability for 2027 targets
Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has issued a demand for accountability from agencies and institutions under his ministry. Following a meeting to review 2026 performance, Jinapor warned that slow delivery and non-performance will not be tolerated as the country works toward its 2027 energy and oil refining targets.
National electricity access has reached 89.13 per cent, a figure the ministry attributes to ongoing power sector investments. To improve reliability and expand the grid, the government plans to install 3,000 transformers across the country, specifically targeting gaps in rural and northern regions where infrastructure has historically lagged.
The Minister emphasized that the upcoming phase of development must prioritize efficiency, transparency, and value for money to build a resilient energy sector capable of supporting economic growth.
