Ghana ex-fire officer remanded over GH¢303k fake recruitment scam

Retired Ghana National Fire Service officer Thomas Dorkenu, 60, was remanded by an Accra Circuit Court on charges of defrauding 60 prospective recruits of GH¢303,200. Prosecutors say Dorkenu claimed he could secure recruitment slots for the applicants through a protocol arrangement and collected the money via midwife Eyram Davordzi‑Banini, who mobilised the candidates. He then issued false appointment letters directing them to the fire service training school, where officials confirmed the letters were fraudulent.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Nyamekye testified that a Tecno Spark C30 mobile phone was seized from Dorkenu and is being examined for digital evidence. The court, presided over by Judge Kwabena Kodua Obiri‑Yeboah, did not take Dorkenu’s plea and adjourned the case to 12 August 2026 while investigators continue tracing a Telecel number linked to the scheme.
