Ghana ex-MASLOC chief Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu faces legal and bail challenges

Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) chief executive Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu was extradited from the United States to Ghana after being convicted in absentia on charges of causing financial loss to the state and theft. She is set to serve a 10‑year prison sentence imposed by the Accra High Court.

NPP communicator Awal Mohammed suggested she could still seek bail, citing a recent case where a defendant secured release after a court overturn. Meanwhile, James Kwabena Bomfeh of the Centre for Citizenship, Constitutional and Electoral Systems urged authorities to focus on recovering the funds alleged to have been misappropriated, warning that a sentence alone would not prevent the state from losing resources.

Both commentators emphasized that legal avenues remain open for challenging the conviction and that accountability should include restitution of public money.
