Ghana Exim Bank shifts lending focus to high-impact economic projects

The Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) has announced a strategic shift in its lending policy to prioritize high-impact economic projects. CEO Sylvester Mensah stated that the bank will focus on financing initiatives capable of driving industrialization, job creation, and export growth, aligning with the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative.

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed support for the bank’s efforts to recover millions in unpaid loans. He noted that retrieving these funds is critical for continued financing of viable industrial projects and alleged that previous access to financing was often dominated by politically connected individuals who failed to meet repayment obligations.

In a related development, the commissioning of the Northshore Apparel Industrial Park in Savelugu highlights the intersection of economic development and national security. Northshore Apparel CEO Nurideen Mohammed argued that providing sustainable employment in Northern Ghana is a more durable solution to regional insecurity than armed responses alone.
