Ghana expands adolescent pregnancy programs with UNFPA and UNICEF support

The Ghana Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) convened a stakeholder meeting to launch the Revised Adolescent Pregnancy Strategy for 2026‑2030. The strategy targets the roughly 15% of Ghanaian girls aged 15‑19 who become pregnant each year, aiming to improve education, health, gender equality and economic outcomes.

In parallel, UNICEF and the Ghana Health Service have broadened the Safety Net Intervention, adding 44 health facilities in the Central Region. The expansion now covers 176 facilities across 16 districts, with about 100 health workers trained to deliver adolescent‑friendly maternal and child health services. The programme, running since 2020, seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes for adolescents and enroll them early in supportive care.
