Ghana expands diplomatic reach with new Dublin embassy and diaspora initiatives
Ghana is expanding its diplomatic and consular reach through several international initiatives. In Ireland, Deputy Foreign Minister James Gyakye Quayson is working to establish Ghana’s first resident embassy in Dublin. This move aims to improve consular assistance for the approximately 5,000 Ghanaian citizens living in Ireland and strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as healthcare, education, and international peacekeeping.
In the United States, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is developing a comprehensive database to monitor the welfare and consular status of Ghanaians globally. This initiative is intended to help the government respond to immigration-related challenges, such as legal assistance and detention. Ablakwa also noted that the temporary pause on U.S. immigrant visa issuance for Ghanaian applicants has ended following a court order.
Additionally, during the Congressional Black Caucus Diaspora Forum in Washington, D.C., Deputy Minister Quayson emphasized Ghana’s commitment to Pan-Africanism and the Reparatory Justice Agenda. He promoted trade and investment opportunities to deepen collaboration between Africa and the global diaspora.
