Ghana expands One Million Coders Programme with new ICT centre

The One Million Coders Programme has expanded to Kwesimintsim with the launch of a new community ICT centre. Member of Parliament Philip Fiifi Buckman inaugurated the facility, which aims to train over 2,000 local residents, including students, traders, and youth, in digital skills such as coding and artificial intelligence.

Launched by President John Dramani Mahama, the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations seeks to train one million Ghanaians over four years. The programme has already reached 130 centres across all 16 regions of the country.

Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has emphasized the importance of maintaining high certification standards. During a visit to training centres in the Volta Region, the Minister defended the rigorous curriculum against complaints of difficulty, noting that high-level competence is essential for graduates to secure international remote employment and meet the requirements of potential employers, such as Business Process Outsourcing firms.
