Ghana expands renewable energy with new 50MW Yendi solar plant

A 50-megawatt solar power station in the Yendi Municipality has begun feeding electricity into Ghana's national grid. Developed by First Sky Limited in partnership with the Bui Power Authority (BPA), the project was designed and implemented using local expertise. The facility was completed in September 2026 following construction that began in December 2023.

To integrate the plant, a 4-kilometre, 161-kilovolt transmission line was constructed to link the solar farm to the Tamale-Yendi network. The Bui Power Authority has developed approximately 150 megawatts of solar capacity since 2020, including experimental floating solar installations on the Black Volta. This expansion follows legislative amendments that expanded the BPA's mandate to include green and clean energy resources.
