Ghana faces hosting challenges for 2027 U-20 AFCON

Ghana's ability to host the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is under scrutiny due to concerns regarding government funding and insufficient infrastructure upgrades at proposed venues. The tournament is scheduled for March 2027 to coincide with the country's 70th independence anniversary.

Key venues earmarked for the competition include the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Cape Coast Stadium, the University of Ghana Stadium, and potentially the Accra Sports Stadium. There are concerns that if hosting rights are stripped, the national team, the Black Satellites, may not participate in the tournament.

A similar situation occurred in 2025 when Côte d’Ivoire withdrew from hosting the U-20 AFCON shortly before the event, leading CAF to award the rights to Egypt. While Ghana remains the designated host, officials emphasize that urgent action on funding and stadium preparations is required to secure the event.
