Ghana Fair Wages Commission to begin 2027 base pay negotiations
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has scheduled a meeting for October 15, 2026, to begin negotiations for the 2027 national base pay. The consultative process involves representatives from the government, including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, alongside various organized labour groups.
Organized labour is advocating for a significant increase in the 2027 base pay. Dr. Ernest Yorke, President of the Ghana Medical Association, stated that while inflation has slowed, this does not equate to lower market prices or restored purchasing power for workers. Labour groups intend to present evidence of high living costs to justify an upward adjustment to salaries and emoluments across the public sector.
