Ghana Finance Minister Ato Forson faces criticism over flood‑mitigation fund delays

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye – known as Nana B – publicly questioned why Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson remains in office. He alleged that the Ministry of Finance failed to release funds earmarked by the World Bank for flood mitigation, contributing to the deadly June 29 floods in Accra that killed 35 people.

Citing a World Bank report, Nana B said the money for flood prevention is “with the Finance Ministry, and the money was not used.” He urged accountability, asking why the minister has not been removed despite the alleged failure to disburse the funds and the resulting loss of lives and livelihoods.

The criticism also highlighted complaints from other ministries about delayed fund releases, intensifying calls for the finance minister to address the issue.
