Ghana Finance Minister Urges Fiscal Accountability as IMF Program Ends

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said every cedi collected, borrowed and spent must serve the national interest, stressing transparent and prudent management of public funds. His remarks followed the presentation of the 2026 Mid‑Year Budget Review to Parliament, fulfilling the Public Financial Management Act deadline.

Member of Parliament Dr. Gideon Boako, deputy ranking member of the Finance Committee, criticised the government after the completion of Ghana’s IMF programme. He argued that the exit exposed underlying economic weaknesses, questioned the quality of fiscal consolidation, and pointed to rising fuel and tomato prices as evidence of pressure on Ghanaians.

Both officials highlighted concerns over Ghana’s fiscal discipline and the challenges facing the economy in the post‑IMF period.
