Ghana flood alert issued as rain expected across Accra and coastal areas

The Ghana Interior Ministry has issued an emergency flood alert for the Greater Accra Region, warning of moderate rainfall between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, with a 40 % chance of occurrence. Residents are urged to avoid walking or driving through flood‑prone areas and to stay alert to changing conditions.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) forecasts unsettled weather nationwide, with rain and thunderstorms expected in the northern, transition and middle belts later in the day. Coastal communities such as Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Aflao and Anloga are slated for light to moderate morning rain, while inland towns may see thunderstorms in the evening. Mist and fog are likely over forest and mountainous zones (e.g., Kumasi, Obuasi, Tarkwa), reducing visibility for motorists. Sea conditions will remain rough, prompting caution for fisherfolk and commercial vessels. Authorities advise the public to monitor updates, reduce speed in wet conditions, and avoid flooded roads.
