Ghana floods force evacuations in Samreboi and Sogakope
Heavy rains caused severe flooding in Ghana's Western and Volta regions. In Samreboi, western Ghana, floodwaters have begun to recede, allowing residents to return to their homes after weeks of displacement. The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) warned that safety checks must be completed before a full return, noting that about 2,500 people were affected and around 100 buildings destroyed. Relief supplies and support from government agencies, private companies, and philanthropists continue, with ongoing inspections of structures and water sources.
In Sogakope, Volta Region, intense rainfall flooded homes along the riverbank, reaching knee‑to‑waist depth in some areas. Assembly Member Gleku Williams Kofi reported that every household in the affected zones was inundated, though no fatalities have been recorded. NADMO had previously gathered flood data but had not yet fully mobilised on the ground, while the District Chief Executive and other local officials are responding to the crisis. Residents remain in temporary shelters and await further assistance.
