Ghana football team records third straight loss in World Cup warm‑up

The Ghana national football team lost 0‑2 to Mexico in a friendly match in Puebla, marking its third consecutive defeat in World Cup preparations. Earlier in March, Ghana had been beaten 1‑5 by Austria and 1‑2 by Germany. Head coach Carlos Quero did not travel to the match for personal reasons and was replaced by 38‑year‑old assistant Desmond Ofei, who made several changes at halftime but could not find a goal‑scoring response.

Mexico’s second goal, which secured the win, was scored by 31‑year‑old striker Guillermo Martinez in the 54th minute. Ghana’s Football Association said the match was “a valuable test ahead of the World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico.” The team’s next friendly will be against Wales on 2 June in Cardiff, and Ghana will face Croatia on 27 June in Philadelphia as part of Group L at the tournament.
