Ghana economy grows 6.0% in Q2 2026 driven by ICT

Ghana’s economy grew by 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the Ghana Statistical Service. This represents a slight moderation from the 6.6% growth recorded during the same period in 2025. The first half of 2026 saw an overall growth rate of 6.2%.

The expansion was primarily driven by the services sector, which grew by 8.0% and accounted for over half of the total GDP growth. Within services, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector was a major driver, expanding by 30.9%. The industrial sector grew by 4.3%, supported by a 22.4% rebound in oil and gas production. Conversely, the agriculture sector grew by 3.9%, with the fishing subsector experiencing a significant contraction of 24.7%.

While the headline growth figures indicate a continuing post-crisis recovery, analysts note that growth is unevenly distributed. The reliance on ICT and hydrocarbons contrasts with slower momentum in agriculture and fishing. Additionally, an International Monetary Fund report highlighted that despite revenue increases, Ghana’s state-owned enterprises continue to face structural weaknesses and net losses, often due to non-cost-reflective tariffs and liquidity constraints.
