Ghana Gender Ministry provides support for OSECTEC students and Hohoe flood victims
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has launched two separate relief interventions in Ghana.
In the Ashanti Region, an advance team has been deployed to Obuasi Senior High Technical School (OSECTEC) to provide psychosocial and social welfare support to students following an alleged sexual abuse incident. The team, including officers from the Department of Social Welfare and the Domestic Violence Secretariat, is working to assess the health and protection needs of affected students while coordinating with educational authorities. The Ministry emphasized a trauma-informed approach to protect the dignity and privacy of the students.
In the Volta Region, the Ministry has provided emergency cash assistance to 625 residents in Hohoe affected by flooding. Distributed through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, the funds aim to help households replace essential belongings and meet immediate needs after the River Dayi overflowed in late September. This assistance follows a field assessment conducted by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
