Ghana Gold Board funds GH¢8.4 million water‑plant repairs in Western and Central regions
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) signed an agreement to invest GH¢8.4 million in the rehabilitation of three water‑supply systems – Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman – located in the Western and Central regions. The facilities had been severely disrupted by high turbidity caused by illegal mining activities, which reduced water production and threatened the supply of safe drinking water to thousands of residents.
GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi said the board commissioned an independent technical assessment that confirmed the urgent need for intervention, and the funding will cover the repair works while GWL will execute the rehabilitation and GoldBod will monitor progress. GWL Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu highlighted that the project will restore operational capacity and improve water delivery to affected communities, reinforcing the board’s commitment to responsible mining and public‑health safeguarding.
