Ghana Gold Board model attracts interest from seven African nations

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) model is attracting significant interest from several African nations seeking to formalize gold trading and centralize market regulation. Over a 12-month period, seven countries—including Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sudan, and Namibia—have undertaken official visits to study Ghana’s approach to asserting national sovereignty over gold resources.

In September 2025, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, met with GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi to discuss adapting the Ghanaian model for mineral revenue management. In October 2025, a high-level delegation from Mozambique’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy visited to examine GoldBod’s regulatory framework and institutional arrangements for gold certification.

Additionally, the Ambassador of Sudan to Ghana, Gariballa Khidir Ali, met with GoldBod leadership to explore bilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on responsible gold governance, trade facilitation, and investment. GoldBod operates under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which grants it statutory authority over the purchasing, weighing, grading, assaying, valuing, and exporting of precious minerals.
