Ghana Gold Board to buy 30% of large‑scale miners' gold from July 2026

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), led by CEO Sammy Gyamfi, announced a suite of reforms to tighten oversight of the country’s gold trade. Starting July 2026, licensed buyers must report each transaction within five minutes and issue time‑stamped receipts. GoldBod will replace its live pricing with the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) AM and PM benchmarks, with daily cedi conversion based on the Bank of Ghana reference rate, and cap commission margins at GH¢30.

In parallel, a new agreement with the Ghana Chamber of Mines requires large‑scale mining companies to sell 30 % of their doré gold output to GoldBod, up from the previous 20 % quota. Purchases will be made in Ghanaian cedis at a 0.55 % discount to the reference price. The gold will be refined locally, supporting the goal of achieving LBMA accreditation for at least one domestic refinery by 2030, and will be added to the Bank of Ghana’s reserves under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Program (GANRAP), which aims to build foreign‑exchange reserves covering 15 months of imports by 2028.
