Ghana Gold Board partners with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery to boost local gold processing

On May 25, 2026, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) signed a refinery agreement with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery. The deal authorises GoldBod to supply up to one metric tonne of gold each week for local refining, marking the board’s second refinery partnership in 2026 after an earlier accord with Gold Coast Refinery.

The partnership is part of Ghana’s strategy to retain more mineral value, create jobs and meet President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of refining all mined minerals domestically by 2030. Officials said local refining will keep refining fees, recover by‑products and improve the balance of payments. The Bank of Ghana backs the initiative, and the refinery plans to seek London Bullion Market Association accreditation to strengthen Ghana’s position in the global bullion market. Currently GoldBod purchases roughly 2.45 metric tons of gold weekly and aims to increase the share of locally refined gold in export revenues.
