Ghana government disburses GH¢23.1 billion for road arrears and infrastructure

The Ghanaian government has disbursed GH¢23.1 billion to settle outstanding debts owed to road contractors and to fund projects under the Big Push infrastructure programme. This figure represents total payments made through the end of July.

Roads and Highways Minister Kwami Governs Agbodza announced the disbursement during President John Dramani Mahama’s inspection of the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu Road project in the Upper East Region. Agbodza noted that a significant portion of the funds was dedicated to clearing accumulated arrears, stating that the current administration has paid the largest portion of arrears in the country's history.

The Minister emphasized that the government is both continuing inherited projects and initiating new ones. He indicated that road issues are being addressed across every constituency and district, with contractors expected to return to various sites in the coming months to resume or commence work.
